Labor productivity is a measure of economic performance that compares the amount of goods and services produced (output) with the number of hours worked to produce those goods and services. The BLS also publishes measures of multifactor productivity.

    Announcement

    • The BLS revised productivity estimates for first quarter 2020 will incorporate estimates of March employment and hours that supplement Current Employment Statistics (CES) data and Current Population Survey (CPS) data. The first quarter employment and hours estimates also use Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims as well as April 2020 CES and CPS data to account for the COVID-19 related downturn during the second half of March, which fell outside of the reference period for March. Technical details will accompany the Productivity and Costs First Quarter 2020 release on June 4, 2020.
